Back to School! A memorable in-person return to the EL Corporate University Induction
After almost four years of the EL Corporate University (ELCU) Induction delivered virtually, it was an awesome and invigorating experience for participants as well as the presenters to transition to 3-D in Bucharest for the in-person 2024 ELCU Induction Module, kindly hosted by Loteria Romana.
With Lottery jobs ranging from Sustainable Purchasing Manager to Lottery Director, 25 participants from 13 Lottery companies as well as two participants from a Supplier came together to hear and interact with 11 lottery expert presenters who, between them, had over 200 years of lottery experience to share.
Laura Da Silva Gomes was just one of the many great speakers at the ELCU
Unlike other similar lottery education experiences offered elsewhere, all ELCU Induction sessions are delivered by serving or ex lottery professionals or consultants/academics who have worked for and with State Lottery Companies. This guarantees lottery content that is completely relevant, informed and up-to-date. Participants were exposed to all aspects of lottery - from game design, marketing, digital and physical retail to CSR/RG/Sustainability, legal, sports betting and storytelling.
These sessions were supplemented by a number of case studies and exercises including the design of a scratch card (+ online version) to appeal to 18 to 25 year-olds. One of the surprise learnings for participants from this exercise was that constructing scratch card game prize structures is more art than science.
The winning team (as voted by the participants themselves) was “Scratch your way to a dream trip”, offering a top prize of €60,000 to fund a year’s travel experience with a secondary game accessed via QR code where players could win useful travel accessories such as back-packs, suitcases or vouchers for various travel experiences.
The 11 presenters offered best-in-class experiences ranging from the Norsk Tipping focus on the player journey and the future of Retail in the context of over 80% of revenue now coming from their online channel, to the Allwyn experience of pragmatic marketing in the highly competitive UK market.

In addition to the formal sessions and exercises, participants had the opportunity to network and establish friendships that, from past experiences, we know could remain active and useful for years to come.

These natural networking opportunities and group work were supplemented by an exceptional night of Romanian food and entertainment offered by our gracious hosts, the Romanian National Lottery.
So, the 25 graduates of the class of 2024 now join over 1000 “cadets” who have already shared in this unique EL experience!
