By plane

  • Basel EuroAirport (BSL): About 100km from Bern. 
  • Geneva Airport (GVA): Approximately 150km from Bern. 
  • Zurich Airport (ZRH): About 120km from Bern. 

EL booths will be present at Geneva and Zurich airports (only) to welcome participants on Sunday, September 14, and Monday morning, September 15, 2025.

By train

Travelling to Bern

Switzerland's efficient and sustainable rail network makes traveling to Bern smooth and straightforward:

  • From Basel EuroAirport: SBB offers two trains per hour to Bern, taking about 1 hour 15 minutes.
  • From Geneva Airport: SBB offers two trains per hour to Bern, taking about 1 hour 50 minutes.  
  • From Zurich Airport: Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) operates regular trains to Bern, with a journey time of approximately 1 hour 15 minutes.

Getting around Bern

Bern's public transportation is managed by BERNMOBIL, offering trams and buses throughout the city. Tickets are available at vending machines located at tram and bus stops as well as online here

If you're staying at a hotel in Bern, you will receive free travel on public transport within zones 100 and 101. Please download the Bern Welcome App and follow the instructions. 

Other modes of transport: 

  • Walking: Bern's city centre is pedestrian-friendly, making it ideal for exploring on foot.
  • Cycling: The city offers bike rental services and has dedicated cycling paths.
