The 2nd edition of the EL Sport Award has been launched today and the European Lotteries (EL) is accepting submissions by January 31, 2018.

With society/sustainability being one of the core lottery values, EL for 2nd consecutive year releases its call for submissions for its EL Sport Award with the objective to further promote and support an outstanding sports initiative. Any project/organisation/individual seeking to promote grassroots sport, use sport as a tool for social development or combat negative phenomena in sport, is eligible to submit its application. The deadline for submissions is January 31, 2018.

EL Secretary General, Arjan van’t Veer, states: “With the EL Sport Award initiative we showcase once again our commitment to society and to a value-based, sustainable, clean and credible sport.” Chair of EL Sports Committee, Olli Sarekoski, adds “We look forward to receiving this year again submissions for relevant projects that seek to promote the societal role of sport or safeguard its integrity and credibility”.

The selection will be based on a set of criteria, including the quality of application, relevance of project, inspirational value and impact. The Award will be accompanied by a financial award of 5,000 EUR which will need to be spent in similar activities. The Award ceremony will take place during the EL Industry Days in Prague in June 2018.  The 1st edition of the EL Sport Award was handed to sports club ESV Neuaubing for its “Sports United” project, which seeks to offer real integration opportunities to refugees and asylum seekers in and through sport.
