Every year NCPG and the International Centre for Youth Gambling Problems and High-Risk Behaviours at McGill University ask lotteries to support the responsible gambling campaign and help raise awareness regarding the risks of underage lottery play during the holiday season.
EL proudly endorses this campaign together with the World Lottery Association (WLA) and North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries (NASPL).
The Campaign which began back in 2003 to raise awareness about the risks of youth gambling, provides materials and messaging for lotteries and non-lottery organisations to communicate responsible gambling around the holidays and all year long. It educates communities on the risks of buying lottery tickets for children.
In 2021, the campaign theme changed to a general Gift Responsibly message. While the campaign continues to focus on the holiday season, the name changed to enable lotteries to expand the responsible giving messaging for all the occasions where children might receive lottery tickets as gifts (e.g., birthdays, graduations, etc.).
Make a difference: Join your colleagues across the country and around the world in the responsible gambling campaign to raise awareness regarding the risks of underage lottery use. Lottery products are appropriate for gifting only to adults, from adults.
Research shows why: the earlier a person’s participation or even exposure to gambling in childhood, the more likely they are to develop gambling problems later in life. And gambling in childhood is frequently some kind of lottery product, given through lack of awareness by a well-meaning adult.
